We recover, rebuild and repair lounges, armchairs, dining chairs, bed heads, ottomans and pieces that do not fit any category at all. Covers come off first so we can see the frame, the springs and the padding before anyone talks about fabric, and you get told honestly what is worth saving. Dylan, his dad and our machinist have close to a hundred years of craft between them, and the cutting, sewing and fitting all happens in the one building rather than being sent out to somebody else.

Half the streets within walking distance of the bench are owner built, mudbrick or milled timber, put up through the sixties and seventies by people who made a good deal of what went inside as well. Those houses have habits. Living rooms often sit a step down from the hall, doorways are narrower than anything a modern sofa is designed around, and the seating was built to fit one particular wall rather than a showroom floor. Tell us about the step and the door width when you book a pickup. Knowing it beforehand is the difference between a clean lift and taking a leg off in your hallway.

Eltham North is home. The workshop is on Casuarina Ridge in the 3095 pocket, and we work right across the suburb, from Wattletree Road and Glen Park Road through to the streets backing onto Eltham North Reserve and the Diamond Creek trail. Pick-up here is usually a short run, so we can often collect and return on the same trip.
Yes, and plenty of Eltham North people do. Call or text first so we know to expect you, because we are on the tools rather than behind a counter and there are no set showroom hours. When you get here you can go through fabric and leather samples in daylight, feel the difference between the firm and medium Dunlop HR35 foam, and see work in progress on the bench.
