Our story · a family workshop in Eltham

Three trades, one workshop, a century of craft between us.

Dylberry Design is a small family upholstery and furniture-restoration workshop in Eltham, servicing all of Melbourne. We recover, repair and restore rather than replace, working over the frames you already own.

We are not a showroom and we are not a factory. We are a workshop, a family that has spent a long time learning how furniture is actually built, and how to make a tired piece feel solid and beautiful again. Between the three of us there is close to 100 years of combined craft, across upholstery, French polishing and machining, and it all happens under one roof in Eltham.

That combination is rare. Most places do one part of the job and send the rest out. When a chair comes to us needing new fabric, a re-glued frame and a polished timber show-wood, it never has to leave the building. One team, one standard, start to finish.

Three trades under one roof

Furniture restoration is really several crafts working together. We keep all three in-house, which is how we hold the quality and the timeline.

Upholstery

Stripping back, re-webbing, re-springing, new foam and fabric, buttoning and hand-finishing. The craft at the heart of what we do.

French polishing

Traditional hand-applied finishing that brings timber show-wood and antique frames back to a deep, honest lustre.

Machining

Frame repairs, timber work and the joinery that lets us rebuild rather than patch, so the piece lasts another lifetime.

Recover, don't replace

Our whole approach starts from one belief: a well-made piece of furniture is worth saving. Fabric and foam wear out, but a good hardwood frame does not. So instead of sending it to landfill and selling you something new, we work over the frame you already have, and more often than not you end up with a better-made piece than most of what is on the shop floor today.

It is also the honest choice. We would rather restore the sofa that has been in your family for thirty years than convince you to throw it out. If a piece genuinely is not worth saving, we will tell you that too.

Recovering a solid piece keeps its character, keeps it out of landfill, and usually costs a fraction of replacing it with furniture of the same quality.

Built for commercial too

The same workshop handles commercial seating, banquettes and fit-out pieces that have to stand up to daily use. For that work we build with genuine Australian fire-grade Dunlop foam and solid framing, so the seating meets the standards a venue needs and keeps its shape and comfort under real traffic. We do not name past clients here, but the brief is always the same: make it safe, make it last, make it look right.

A workshop, not a showroom

We work out of a workshop rather than a retail shopfront, and that is deliberate. There is no showroom rent, no floor staff and no display stock to pay for. What you pay for is the craft and the materials that go into your piece, nothing else. It is a leaner way to run, and it is the reason genuinely good work stays within reach.

Trusted by Melbourne

We let the work and the reviews speak. Across upholstery, restoration and commercial jobs, our clients have left more than 35 five-star reviews, and most of our work comes by word of mouth from people passing our name to a friend.
