Rosanna work leans towards fifties and sixties furniture and the pieces that came after it. Perished rubber webbing gets replaced, crumbled original foam is swapped for Dunlop HR35 cut to the same profile, and cushion interiors are rebuilt so the shape returns instead of sagging into the frame. Timber arms and legs are cleaned back, repaired and re-polished rather than replaced. We also do the everyday jobs, dining chair seats, ottomans, bed heads and full sofa recovers, in whatever suits the house.

Often the first thing we are told from Rosanna is that the family house has sold and only one chair is coming with them. Downsizing into a townhouse or a unit near the station means choosing, and the piece that gets chosen is almost never the biggest one. It is usually a low armchair that somebody's parents bought new. That makes for a particular kind of job. The chair is heading into a smaller, brighter room where it will be the only old thing in there, so the fabric decision carries more weight than it would across a full suite, and we are happy to leave samples with you for a week rather than have you pick on the spot.

Yes, Rosanna is a regular run for us. We collect across the 3084 streets, from the Lower Plenty Road end and the streets off Rosanna Road down to the Beetham Parade shops and the station,. Heidelberg, Viewbank and Macleod are all part of the same trip, so we can often do more than one pick-up in a morning.
Almost always. That sinking feeling is the rubber webbing stretching and the original foam breaking down, not the frame failing. We re-web the seat, cut new foam to the same profile the designer intended, and rebuild the cushion interior so the chair sits at its proper height again. If the timber has dried out we feed and polish it at the same time.
