Upholstery · Box Hill
Box Hill hands us two quite different jobs. There is seating that has to come out of an apartment near the centre, where the lift and the front door decide half of how the work gets done, and there is the full lounge suite or dining setting from a family house in the streets around it. We do both out of our Eltham North workshop, and either way it starts with a photo.

We recover and rebuild lounges, armchairs, dining chairs, bed heads and ottomans, and what a piece needs changes with the house it lives in. Apartment work tends to be compact: two seaters, tub chairs, window seat and bench cushions, dining chairs for a smaller table, and bed heads made to measure so they fit a wall with a robe or a window in an awkward spot. In the family homes through Box Hill South and Box Hill North it is usually the full job, a three piece suite stripped back to the frame, webbing and springs sorted out underneath, new Dunlop HR35 foam cut firm at 200 density or medium at 165 depending on who actually sits there, and a set of dining chairs done together as one batch so they still match when they go back. Frame repairs carry our thirty year guarantee.
Local
Dining chairs are the thing we are asked about most often here, and they are worth understanding before you get a quote. Most have a drop-in seat, a padded pad that lifts out of the frame once you turn the chair over and back off a few screws. That is good news. A drop-in seat can be re-foamed and recovered without touching the timber, so a set of six is a tidy job rather than a major one. Where it gets more involved is a fixed seat, where the cover is stapled to the frame itself and the timber has to be worked around. Turn one chair upside down and send us a photo of the underside. That single picture tells us which of the two you have.
Good to know
Yes, across Box Hill and Box Hill South in 3128, and Box Hill North next door in 3129. We collect from the apartment buildings around Box Hill Central and the station, along Whitehorse Road and Station Street, up past Box Hill Gardens and the hospital precinct, out to the Kerrimuir end of Box Hill North and down to the Canterbury Road side of Box Hill South. Surrey Hills, Mont Albert and Blackburn usually fit into the same trip.
Nearly always, but it is worth sorting out before the day. Tell us the lift door width and the internal depth, whether there is a goods lift, and how tight the turn is from your door to the lift. Send a photo of the sofa beside a doorway if you can. Most three seaters come apart further than people expect, and where a piece genuinely will not fit we can sometimes take the back off in the apartment and rebuild it on the bench. If the building requires a booking or a certificate of currency, let us know and we will send ours through.
That is the normal starting point, so do not worry about it. Photograph the piece front on, then from the side, then a close-up of whatever is bothering you, and tell us how it gets used and by whom. We come back inside 24 hours with a written quote and a plain explanation of what we would do and why. There is no charge for the quote and no expectation you go ahead. You can text the photos to 0425 832 619 or send them through the form on this site.
