Upholstery · Fairfield
A lot of Fairfield houses are partway through a proper renovation, and the furniture tends to be the last thing anyone gets to. We rebuild and reupholster period pieces so they belong in the finished room, from Edwardian settees and matched dining chair sets to the armchair that has been in the family a long while. Send us a photo and we will come back to you inside 24 hours with a free quote.

We reupholster sofas, lounges, armchairs and dining chairs, and we do the full rebuild when the inside has given up, which usually means new webbing, new springs or nine way hand tied where the piece calls for it, and Dunlop HR35 high resilience foam so a seat holds its shape for years instead of months. Antique and heirloom restoration is a big part of what comes to us from Fairfield, including timber and frame repairs, French polishing to lift a dulled finish, and leather repair and recolour on pieces that are structurally sound but looking tired. We also make bed heads and ottomans to measure, which helps when a restored bedroom has an awkward wall or a picture rail to work around, and we take on banquette and booth seating for shops and cafes.
Local
Timing is the thing worth getting right on a Fairfield renovation. Furniture that goes back into a room too early collects plaster dust and sanding grit, and both work their way deep into a new cover where a vacuum will not reach. If the room is still being worked on, we are happy to hold a finished piece at the workshop until you are ready for it, wrapped and out of the way, at no extra cost. The other thing people forget is doorways. Older houses down this way have narrow hallways and tight turns at the stairs, so measure the doorway before you commit to a bigger shape than the one you have.
Good to know
Yes, Fairfield 3078 is a regular run for us, from the Station Street shops and the streets either side of the railway line down to Fairfield Park, the Boathouse and the Amphitheatre. We cover the Alphington and Northcote borders in the same trip. Heidelberg Road gets us across without any fuss, so pickup and delivery can be arranged to suit you.
It will if the work is matched to the room rather than to whatever is fashionable. On period pieces we keep the original shape and lines, rebuild the seat properly underneath so it sits the way it was meant to, and help you choose a fabric weight and weave that suits the era without making the piece feel like a museum exhibit. Most people restoring a Fairfield bungalow or Edwardian home end up in plain wools, linens or a good leather, so the timber and the shape do the talking.
Take a photo of the piece on your phone, then either send it through the form on this site or text it to 0425 832 619. Tell us roughly what is wrong with it and what you would like done. We will reply within 24 hours with a written quote. It costs nothing and there is no obligation to go ahead.
